West Virginia 1861 is the story of the events that led to the separation of pro-Union West Virginia from the secessionist state of Virginia. The Union must take a maximum number of regions to ensure that it will will the referendum, thus creating a friendly new state. The Confederate must attempt to repulse their opponent to make the referendum fail and keep the state of Virginia intact.
